Workers' Compensation

What workers' compensation insurance covers.

Statutory protection for injured employees, plus liability defense for the business behind them.

Medical Treatment

Doctor visits, hospitalization, surgery, and rehabilitation for a work-related injury or illness.

Lost Wages

Temporary and permanent disability benefits while an injured employee recovers.

Employer's Liability

Defense and damages when an injury claim goes beyond statutory benefits into a lawsuit.

Rehabilitation & Return to Work

Vocational rehab and light-duty programs that get employees productive again sooner.

Claims Management

Carrier nurse triage and claims oversight that keeps small injuries from becoming large reserves.

Experience Mod Review

We audit your mod factor and reserves so you aren't paying for claims that should have closed.

Required in almost every state. If you have employees, workers' compensation is generally mandatory — and audits, class codes, and payroll reporting all affect what you ultimately pay.

FAQ

Workers' compensation questions we hear most.

Do I need workers' comp if I only have one employee?

In most states, yes — coverage is generally required as soon as you hire your first employee, and some states count officers and family members too. We'll confirm the requirement for your state and structure the policy accordingly.

How is my workers' comp premium calculated?

Premium is based on your payroll by class code, the rate assigned to each class, and your experience modification factor. Accurate class codes and a well-managed mod factor are usually the two biggest levers on your cost.

What is an experience mod and can it be lowered?

Your experience mod compares your claim history to businesses of similar size and type. It can improve as older claims roll off and open reserves are corrected — we review both as part of every renewal.

Are independent contractors covered?

Usually not, but uninsured subcontractors can be pulled into your payroll at audit. We help you set certificate requirements so you aren't charged premium for someone else's crew.

What is pay-as-you-go workers' comp?

It ties premium to actual reported payroll each pay period instead of an upfront estimate, which smooths cash flow and reduces audit surprises. Several of our carriers offer it.
