One Alleged Mistake Can Cost You a Client and a Lawsuit

Professional liability — errors and omissions — pays to defend you when a client says your advice, design, or service caused them a financial loss. We compare E&O programs from multiple top-rated carriers and match the form to the professional services you actually deliver.

Professional Liability / E&O

What professional liability insurance covers.

Defense and damages for claims arising out of the professional work you perform.

Errors & Omissions

Claims that your work was inaccurate, incomplete, or failed to meet professional standards.

Legal Defense Costs

Attorney fees, expert witnesses, and court costs — even when the allegation is groundless.

Missed Deadlines & Delays

Financial harm a client claims resulted from late delivery or failure to perform.

Subcontractor & Vendor Work

Exposure created by the outside professionals you engage on a client's behalf.

Regulatory & Licensing Defense

Coverage options for disciplinary proceedings tied to your professional license.

Prior Acts & Tail Coverage

Retroactive dates and extended reporting periods so past work stays protected.

General liability won't respond. GL covers bodily injury and property damage. A claim about the quality of your professional work is specifically excluded — that's what E&O is for.

FAQ

Professional liability questions we hear most.

What is the difference between E&O and general liability?

General liability responds to bodily injury and property damage. Professional liability responds to financial loss a client suffers because of your advice or services. Most firms need both.

What does 'claims-made' mean?

Coverage applies to claims reported while the policy is in force, provided the work occurred after your retroactive date. Continuity matters — a lapse can erase years of prior-acts protection.

Do I need tail coverage if I retire or switch carriers?

Often yes. An extended reporting period lets you report claims after the policy ends for work already performed. We price it before you make a change, not after.

My clients require E&O in our contract. What limit is typical?

Contracts commonly require $1M per claim, with larger engagements asking for $2M to $5M. We'll read the insurance clause and quote to what it actually demands.

Does E&O cover a cyber breach?

Only partially, and often not at all. Technology and cyber exposures usually belong on a dedicated cyber liability policy, which we can quote alongside your E&O.
